At-Home Facials During Quarantine using LED

Quarantine can be very stressful. However, it is also the perfect time to focus on self-care, boost mental and physical wellness and take advantage of various skincare at-home treatment devices available on the market. The demand for at-home light therapy devices has increased significantly during quarantine due to their amazing results and the fact that in-clinic facials are not an option to help with skin maintenance. This technology helps bring clinic level results from an in-office light therapy treatment to the comfort of one’s home. LED or Light Emitting Diode technology has several benefits that can really help transform skin over a long-term period.

What is an at-home LED?

Concentrated light radiation, or simply light therapy, was first introduced in medical practice over a hundred years ago for the purpose of treating various diseases, specifically lupus vulgaris. Over the past two decades, there have been multiple successful clinical trials that have illustrated the efficacy of light therapy on skin heath and collagen production. All have shown very little side effects or risks. Patients suffering from epilepsy, migraine and eye conditions are generally not recommended to undergo light therapy treatments. In the world of skincare, LED phototherapy technology constitutes different colour wavelengths that get absorbed by the skin. It functions by employing photobiomodulation to bolster fibroblast proliferation, collagen synthesis, growth factors, as well as extracellular matrix production. Nowadays, it is widely used in the form of a smart facial mask device in salons and at home as an effective natural skincare treatment.

Using LED at home for facials

The device is best used 3 to 5 times per week for up to 20 min on a pre-cleansed skin. For an extra spa-like experience, use it with a serum or mask underneath it. Initial results are subject to the type of light treatments used and/or the frequency of consecutive treatments done. MZ Skin Light-Therapy Golden Facial Treatment Device has five transformative light options, which help target various skin concerns to promote general skin health and rejuvenation. For best results, the LED mask should be used in conjunction with the MZ Skin products to help Reveal, Enhance and Protect skin. The 5 different lights can help with –

Red light aims to tighten and firm the skin, while facilitating the production of collagen and elastin

Blue light helps with blemishes and keeps the skin clean and acne-free

Green light reduces hyperpigmentation and dark spots

Yellow light boosts circulation and reduces sensitivity

White light provides a restorative function

What are the key benefits of an at-home LED regime?

Multiple studies suggest that LED increases the production of pro-collagen and fibroblast, as well as enhances microcirculation and inhibits cell death. Overall, it helps to provide a refined complexion, clean and healthy-looking skin and a more rejuvenated and youthful appearance.

LED facials are not merely about improving skin health – it is a way to fuse physical and mental wellness in one simple, yet effective at-home experience. With quarantine restrictions, it is much easier to find some ‘me time’ to relax and experience a pampering spa-like facial at home. Moreover, research suggests that the use of LED phototherapy can decrease stress, intensify serotonin and boost energy levels. Put work and chores aside, switch off phone notifications, turn on relaxing music or nature sounds and let the mind and body fully emerge in the LED experience.
