BBL / HALO Laser Treatment Explained

There are many laser skin resurfacing technologies and we understand it is easy to get overwhelmed. At The Clinic in Chelsea, Dr. Zamani offers only the best, proven laser technologies including the Sciton BBL / HALO treatment.

Here we explain BBL / HALO in greater depth as understanding these treatments will best prepare you for your consultation.

What is BBL / HALO Laser Treatment?

BBL / HALO is a customizable combined treatment to help achieve radiant, clear, youthful skin on the face, neck and body.

BBL is BroadBand Light therapy(BBL Face Treatment) that targets and treats sun damaged skin, hyperpigmentation and tiny blood vessels on the face, neck and decolletage.

The Halo Laser is an innovative fractional hybrid laser used to improve skin texture and tone, and to treat deeper hyperpigmentation and acne scarring.

Together they give the ultimate in skin rejuvenation!

How does BBL / HALO work?

The treatment starts with BBL to deliver pulses of photothermal energy which penetrates into the superficial dermal layer of the skin.  This energy is absorbed by surface pigmentation and destroys this pigmentation and blood vessels.  Simultaneously, BBL promotes collagen and elastin production within the dermis.

The Halo Laser further improves skin tone and texture by targeting the deeper subdermal layers of the skin.  It uses both non ablative and ablative wavelengths to target areas for gorgeous, glowing results with minimal downtime and discomfort.

The combination of BBL with the HALO hybrid laser results in a deeper, long lasting rejuvenation.

Who is BBL / HALO Laser Treatment good for?

BBL / HALO Laser Treatment is recommended to those complaining of sun damage, uneven skin tone including redness, textural problems such as fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores, and scarring.  Because of this hybrid approach, BBL / HALO can treat a wide variety of skin issues including acne, eczema, melasma, and rosacea.

Dr. Zamani recommends BBL / HALO for global rejuvenation of the skin, with minimal downtime and long-term results.  The combination of BBL with HALO is synergistic.  The BBL will treat the surface level imperfections including redness, discoloration and pigmentation while the HALO treatment provides textural and anti-ageing properties.

Can BBL / HALO be done if I have had other treatments?

Often BBL / HALO can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as PRP, skin peels and injectables.

What to expect during and after a BBL / HALO Laser Treatment?

The BBL / HALO Laser Treatment for face takes approximately 1 hour. The skin is anesthetized with topical numbing cream, and cleansed and prepped for BBL. The eyes are protected with safety shields.  During the treatment, ultrasound gel is placed on the skin and a number of short, high-intensity light flashes will be delivered to the treated area in a short period of time.  This area is then cleansed, and the face scanned with the HALO handpiece to determine the treatment protocol for each individual face. Treatment involves rolling of the laser onto the face in a criss-cross pattern to deliver a bespoke amount of energy to the treated area.

Is there downtime from BBL / HALO?

Downtime from BBL / HALO is dependent on the severity of presenting conditions and the depths of the treatment preformed.  Each treatment is tailored to the specific concerns of the patient.  Skin will be red and there will be darkened areas of treated pigmentation that will fade and flake after 5-7 days. There will also be pinpoint areas of dry, flaky skin that will peel within 2-5 days.

It is recommended to avoid exercise for 24 hours, and steam and sauna for 72 hours after treatment. SPF is essential after any light or laser treatment. Make up can be used 1 day after treatment.

How quickly are results seen and how long will BBL / HALO last?

The BBL / HALO combination provides long-lasting results.  Treatments with BBL / HALO are customizable to lifestyle and desired outcomes. Patients who wish little to no downtime may choose to have several light treatments spread out over months. Alternatively, 1-2 more aggressive treatments can be done for a quicker result.

As skin produces more collagen and elastin and treats superficial blemishes, skin returns to a genetically more youthful state.  Improvement in the skin appearance (reduction of pigmentation and redness), improvement of fine lines & wrinkles, reduced pore size and glowing skin will be seen after one week and will continue to improve for up to 6 months.

To maintain results, annual repeat treatments are recommended.
