Best Eye Treatments While Wearing a Face Covering

Eye Treatments – With face masks becoming a necessary everyday accessory, it has become increasingly important to have bright and well-rested eyes as these are the only features of the face visible to others. There are many issues people face with regards to the eyes; dark circles, puffiness of the lower eyelids, or droopiness/hooding of the upper eyelids. These issues can be combatted through different treatments, both surgical and non-surgical.

What are the treatments for dark circles?

Different people have dark circles for completely different reasons. Before looking through the different treatments of dark circles, it is important to understand what causes them.

Dark circles that are hereditary (due to hyperpigmented skin in the area) or caused by photodamage, would require long term treatment to combat the issues, in conjunction with lasers and other eye brightening creams.

Dark circles in the lower eyelids can be a result of shadowing caused by prominent reticular vessels (blue blood vessels). To combat this, ND:YAG Laser treatment can be used to reduce the appearance of these prominent vessels through the periorbital skin. The treatment uses a long pulse laser that shrinks the vessels without needing to use any additional chemicals or needles.

The results of this treatment are immediate.

Dark circles may also be caused due to tear trough volume loss. A tear trough causes creasing between the under-eye are and the cheek. Loss of volume in the tear trough results in the under-eye appearing sunken or hollow. To treat this, hyaluronic acid injectables can be used to add volume to the area, lifting the hollowed skin and brightening the under-eye area.

Injectables can also be used to diminish the shadowing (dark circles) in the under-eye area caused by fat prolapses in the eye-area. Fat prolapses are a movable mass that form beneath the conjunctiva.

Sometimes external environmental factors increase the presence of dark circles. This could be due to smoking, allergies, and pollutants that clog the skin causing poor lymphatic drainage. This can be combatted with the use of brightening eye-creams and masks with ingredients such as Bark Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Caffeine, and Retinol alongside tools that help with lymphatic drainage.

The MZ Skin Soothe & Smooth Collagen Activating Eye Complex (clinically proven to reduce dark circles in 30 days), Hydra-Bright Golden Eye Treatment Mask (brightens dark circles, reduces puffiness, and restores hydration) and Tone & Lift Germanium Contouring Facial Roller (helps relieve lymphatic drainage) are all recommended to help topically combat dark circles.

What are the treatments for droopy/excess hooding of the upper eyelid?

For patients with severe hooding/droopiness of the upper eyelid, an upper eyelid blepharoplasty is recommended. This procedure helps remove the fat and excess skin from the upper eyelids. For patients who do not have a severe drooping/hooding, injectables and ultherapy are recommended to lift the eyelid and tighten the skin around the eye area. Ultherapy is an FDA-approved non-invasive procedure that rejuvenates the skin through high-intensity focal ultrasound energy targeted at specific tissue planes. The procedure has no downtime and patients can go back to everyday routine activities without any delay.

What are the treatments for puffy under-eyes?

Just like the treatments for dark circles, it is essential to understand the cause of puffy lower eye-lids to select an effective treatment method.

For patients with fat prolapses, a lower eyelid blepharoplasty is recommended to permanently deflate the present fat in the lid. This procedure would help reduce the lower eye “bags” and excess skin in the area, resulting in the lower eyelids appearing smoother and better defined which makes the eye area look more youthful.

Patients struggling with a lack of lymphatic drainage in the under-eye area can be prescribed oral medications to help drain the area. Additionally, tools such as the MZ Skin Tone & Lift Facial Roller can also be used to assist lymphatic drainage.

For patients who do not want to opt for procedures and would prefer to use topical treatments to treat puffy eyes, it is recommended to use de-puffing eye creams with ingredients such as caffeine, green tea, and Vitamin K. The MZ Skin Depuff & Define Contouring Eye Rescue is formulated with caffeine and peptides to help prevent the accumulation of fat molecules in the eye area, diminishing the appearance of puffy eyelids.
