IPL – Intense Pulsed Light – treatment generates a broad spectrum of light to heat the dermal tissue without harming or removing the outer epidermal layers of the skin. The body’s natural processes then work to break down and remove these marks, visibly reducing skin imperfections. This type of light treatment can soften and reduce the appearance of brown spots, fine lines, wrinkles, thread veins, freckles, rosacea, acne and age pigmentation spots.

A cooling gel is first applied to the area that will be treated and then the light is gently applied. Each session takes around 30 minutes and the treatment causes little discomfort (some patients compare the sensation to that of a rubber band snapping against skin) and while you may experience some redness for a few hours afterwards with minimal if any prolonged downtime. Four to six treatments at 3 week intervals is recommended with 1-2 maintenance sessions a year.

Skin will appear fresher, rejuvenated after just a few treatments and the benefits of a full course (approximately six sessions) can last up to a year. IPL can dramatically increase collagen production, tone and improve the elasticity of the skin, and can also be used in combination with microdermabrasion, peels and dermal fillers.

  • Rosacea

Common skin conditions that are characterized by facial redness, small and superficial dilated blood vessels, pustules and swelling.

What to expect: PDT is used to treat ageing skin and precancerous lesions caused by sun damage and oily skin conditions such as inflammatory acne and rosacea. This treatment involves the use of light-sensitive medication and a light source to destroy abnormal cells. It can also be combined with drug therapies such as Accutane and Roaccutane. Sessions are usually fifteen to thirty minutes after light sensitive medication has been applied and may need multiple treatments for best results in texture and tone. Reactions are rare, however you may experience a mild dryness and redness after treatment.

Also good for: Improving skin tone, smoothing skin texture, minimizing pores and fine lines.
