PRP: Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), is an effective and natural therapy that releases growth factors within the skin that are responsible for stimulating collagen and elastin production.  As well as an excellent anti-ageing treatment, it can also be used to treat certain blemishes, such as acne marks, as well as stretch marks and dark circles around the eyes. PRP can be used alone or used in conjunction with Mesotherapy or microneedling to bolster results.

PRP harnesses the power of blood.  A small collection of blood is taken and spun to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells. The richly nourishing plasma is then injected back into skin or used in combination with other treatments to improve volume, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improve skin tone and clarity. The plasma can be injected into the face, neck, decolletage, hands, and scalp.

PRP treatment is not suitable if you are suffering from systemic cancer, chemotherapy, steroid therapy, dermatological diseases affecting the face, blood disorders such as platelet abnormalities and anticoagulation therapy.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

The treatment takes approximately 20-30 minutes and can be applied to any skin type or colour. There is little, if any downtime after this procedure, although you may experience some redness, swelling or bruising at the injection site for a few days post treatment. Improvement of skin texture and tone are generally noticeable within three weeks but full collagen regeneration can take up to three months. Although you may see a change after your first treatment, you may also require a series of sessions to obtain optimum results. The results of PRP are not permanent, as a natural degradation will occur over time. Improvements can last up to a year. Please refrain from using actives in skincare (acids, retinols, etc), refrain from hot showers, baths, steam and sauna and refrain from other facial treatments. Repeat treatment can be done 4-6 weeks later if so desired.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PLATELET RICH PLASMA?

As a concentrated source of platelets, PRP contains and releases different growth factors that are vital for healing and stimulating collagen production. Historically, having been widely used to treat sports injuries, wound healing and joint surgery, PRP uses your own blood and is considered a safe treatment option because there is no risk of allergic reactions and no synthetic substances are used. This treatment can be used alone or used in conjunction with Mesotherapy or microneedling to bolster results. You should not undergo PRP treatment if you have any skin conditions or diseases, such as facial cancers (past and present), systemic cancer, chemotherapy, steroid therapy, dermatological diseases affecting the face, blood disorders and platelet abnormalities and anticoagulation therapy. Similarly, PRP is not suitable if you are suffering from platelet dysfunction, critical thrombocytopenia, hyperfibrinogenaemia, sepsis, chronic liver disease, hepatitis or any acute infections. PRP is also not advised if you are a smoker.
