What is Belkyra™?

Belkyra™ is an innovative injectable treatment for both men and women who are bothered by any fullness under the chin.  The active ingredient in Belkyra™ is deoxycholic acid, a chemical substance that is one of the body’s naturally occurring bile salts.  Belkyra™ has been used in North America and Europe for over a decade to reduce localized areas of fat.

How does Belkyra work?

Belkyra™ is injected into the fat layer beneath the chin and destroys fat cells by disrupting the cell membrane.  The body then metabolizes the cell’s content as waste by the body.  Once the fat is processed, there will be less fullness in the area.

Who is Belkyra™ good for?

Belkyra™ is recommended to permanently reduce unwanted double chin fat without surgery, and with minimal downtime.  Belkyra™ is recommended to those individuals who seek reduction of fat below their chin safely without surgery.  Skin tightening procedures can be done in conjunction with Belkyra™ for improved outcome.

What to expect during and after a Belkyra™ treatment?

Belkyra™ treatment requires multiple injections into the fat layers under the chin in a short 20 minute procedure. The area to be treated is marked out and the injection amount varies depending on the patient’s anatomy.  There will be swelling immediately after the treatment and for up to ten days later until the liquid dissipates.  Bruising, numbness or tingling, redness, and mild pain can be experienced after treatment.

Ice or cold packs can be used after treatment for 10-20 minutes.  Avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, steam, sauna or hot showers for 24-48 hours after Belkyra™ treatment.

Only small amounts of fat are dissolved with each Belkyra™ treatment and the body processes the unwanted fat cells without any negative impact on your liver or kidneys.

How quickly are results seen and how long will Belkyra™ last?

A treatment course of Belkyra™ depends on how much fat needs to be dissolved.  Most patients need 3-6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.  Visible results from Belkyra™ can be seen in 2 to 4 treatments.

Belkyra™ results are permanent, barring any excessive weight gain after the full course.
