PDO Threads are a minimally invasive procedure where dissolvable non-allergenic threads made of polydioxanone (PDO) are injected into the skin, and sometimes into the muscle, to tighten the skin and stimulate the production of elastin, collagen and hyaluronic acid. These threads are naturally broken down by the body over time. PDO threads can be combined with other injectable treatments and skin treatments to further enhance skin radiance and firmness.
WHAT TO EXPECT?
Before treatment, the skin will be marked for insertion and direction of the threads and then anaesthetized. Multiple threads can be inserted through the same point in the skin. PDO threads are attached to a cannula which will be passed beneath the skin. When the thread has reached its endpoint, the cannula will be removed. This process will be repeated. Any extra thread will be trimmed and the threads will be massaged to smooth skin and prevent dimpling. The procedure is performed in about 45 minutes. It is not uncommon to experience bruising, swelling and discomfort at the site of the thread injection. Normal activity can be resumed 1 week after treatment unless otherwise specified.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
PDO threads temporarily help to reposition facial and neck tissues and to stimulate the production of new collagen in skin. PDO threads do not produce allergic reactions, have been used for over 50 years in a multitude of surgical areas and dissolve within 6-12 months. PDO threads help reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles to give a healthy, glowing appearance and are particularly effective for patients with mild to moderate jowling of the mid and lower face. This can be used in combination with dermal fillers to create a complete approach to volume loss and sagging skin with minimal downtime.
