How it works: There is no downtime with Ultherapy. This is because ulthera bypasses the surface of the skin to target the deep structural tissues to lift and tighten the skin. The ultrasound is used to deliver focused energy t the layer that is addressed during a facelift. Initially after treatment, one may notice a short term boost but the process of creating collagen takes time with maximal result at 6 months.
What to expect: This procedure takes between 30-60 minutes.
Prior to the treatment, there is no preparation; however you will be recommended to take over the counter or prescribed medication prior to the treatment to minimize discomfort.
During the treatment, your face will be cleansed and marked for treatment. An ultrasound gel will be applied. A smooth handpiece will be used on the surface of the skin to deliver energy while the doctor is monitoring the depth on a screen.
After the procedure, there are no special instructions. You are able to return to normal activities immediately. You my look a bit rosy or flushed but that generally resolves within 24 hours. It is not uncommon to experience a slight swelling for a few days or tenderness to touch.
Ulthera is not a replacement for surgery but it is an excellent alternative for those that are not quite ready for surgery or are not interested in having surgical scars but want to have skin tightening and lifting.
